Highly NIR emitting lanthanide complexes with 2-(tosylamino)benzylidene-Nbenzoylhydrazone

New NIR emitting materials were found among the lanthaninde complexes with 2-(tosylamino)benzylidene-N-benzoylhydrazone. Complexes of Nd3+, Er3+ and Yb3+, as well as Eu3+, Gd3+ and Lu3+, were synthesized for the first time. Thanks to the absence of the vibration quenching ytterbium complex was found to exhibit the photoluminescence quantum yield of 1.4%. Since sensibilization efficiency was calculated to be 55%, the losses in the quantum yield are probably due to Yb-Yb resonant energy transfer.

Luminescence enhancement of nanosized ytterbium and europium fluorides by surface complex formation with aromatic carboxylates

Yt terbium 2,6-naphthalenedicarboxylate (Yb2(nda)3•4H2O) and yt terbium 9-anthracenecarboxylate (Yb(ant)3) were obtained for the first time, and it was shown that both of them exhibit ligand sensibilized ytterbium luminescence. Anions ant- and nda2- were tested for the nanoparticle surface modification of YbF3 and model EuF3. The surface modification of the size uniform toroid-like EuF3 nanoparticles with K2(nda) and octahedron-like YbF3 nanoparticles with K(ant) results in the significant luminescence enhancement due to lanthanide carboxylate formation on the particle surface. Such a surface modification leads to the particle size decrease, while their shape remains the same.

Unusual Luminescence Properties of Heterometallic REE Terephthalates

The influence of auxiliary rare-earth element (REE) ions (M3+, M = Y, Gd, Tb) on the luminescence properties of the (EuxM1–x)2(BDC)3(H2O)4 (BDC2– = 1,4-benzenedicarboxylate) series was studied. The overall quantum yields (QYs) of the EuxM1–x series (M = Y, Gd; x > 0.05) appeared to be independent of both the ratio and the type of auxiliary metal ion. It is shown that M = Tb3+ does not cause luminescence enhancement.

Lanthanide complexes with aromatic o-phosphorylated ligands: synthesis, structure elucidation and photophysical properties

Lanthanide complexes LnL3 (Ln = Sm, Eu, Tb, Dy, Tm, Yb, Lu) with aromatic o-phosphorylated ligands (HL1 and HL2) have been synthesized and identified. Their molecular structure was proposed on the basis of a new complex approach, including DFT calculations, Sparkle/PM3 modelling, EXAFS spectroscopy and luminescent probing. The photophysical properties of all of the complexes were investigated in detail to obtain a deeper insight into the energy transfer processes.

Mixed-ligand terbium hydroxyaromatic carboxylates with o-phenanthroline: luminescence quenching at 300 and 77 K

A luminescence quenching mechanism of mixed-ligand terbium aromatic carboxylates with ophenanthroline, leading to a high temperature sensitivity of luminescence, was suggested.

New Rare Earth Metal Acyl Pyrazolonates: Synthesis, Crystals Structures, and Luminescence Properties

Ligand 3-methyl-1-phenyl-4-stearoylpyrazol-5-one (HQ) is synthesized and used to obtain new complexes of rare-earth metals (Eu, Gd, and Tb) of the composition [Ln(Q)3(H2O)(EtOH)]. The crystal structure of the terbium complex is determined by X-ray diffraction analysis (CIF file CCDC 975286). In a molecule of the complex, three aliphatic fragments n-C17H35 are codirected, which results in the formation of layers bound according to the fastener-sticker principle. The molecules of the complex are joined by a hydrogen bond network involving the pyrazolone rings and oxygen atoms of the inner-sphere solvent molecules (H2O and EtOH). The terbium complex is luminescent at room temperature, whereas the luminescence of the europium complex is very weak at room temperature and increases by 60 times at lowered temperatures. This makes it possible to consider these compounds as a new class of “luminescent thermometers.”

High Efficiency Organic Light-Emitting Diode Based on UV Stable Terbium Aromatic Carboxylates

The development of organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) based on lanthanide aromatic carboxylates has been limited due to their low solubility and volatility. In this paper we show the possibility to produce solutionprocessable lanthanide aromatic carboxylate based OLED using the new MLCFD-method (mixed-ligand complexes formation-decomposition), which was reported by us earlier [1]. The devices, based on terbium aromatic carboxylates, were fabricated and their structure were optimized.

Mixed-ligand terbium terephthalates: Synthesis, photophysical and thermal properties and use for luminescent terbium terephthalate thin film deposition

Addition of potassium terephthalate K2tph to an aqueous solution of a mixture of terbium nitrate and ancillary ligands L resulted in the formation of mixed-ligand terbium terephthalates Tb2tph3(TPPO)8(H2O)4 (II), Tb2tph3(TOPO)2(H2O)4 (III), Tb2tph3(diglyme)2(H2O) (IV), Tb2tph3(tetraglyme)4(H2O)3 (V), Tb2tph3(Phen 2(H2O)2 (VI). The composition of the mixed ligand complexes (MLCs) was confirmed by elemental analysis, Raman spectroscopy, thermal analysis, and luminescent spectroscopy. According to the thermal analysis data, II-V exhibit lower thermal stability in comparison with the terephthalate hydrate Tb2tph3(H2O)4 (I). MLCs II, IV, and V are able to eliminate ancillary ligands, followed by formation of anhydrous Tb2tph3, while in case of III and IV ligand elimination is accompanied by partial thermal decomposition of Tb2tph3. Solubility tests showed that MLC II exhibits sufficient solubility in acetonitrile for thin film deposition. Thus thin films of II were deposited by spin-coating, and luminescent thin films of Tb2tph3 were obtained for the first time by thermal treatment of II films.

Novel electroluminescent material based on terbium complex with aromatic ophosphorylated

Organic LEDs based on lanthanide complexes comprise both high monochromaticity and quantum efficiency. Novel electroluminescent material based on tris-(2-diphenylphosphoryl-4-ethylphenolate) terbium (III) possesses high volatility, thermal and UV-stability, which are essential requirements for successful OLED performance. OLED was fabricated by PVD approach and an appropriate structure of transport layers was proposed.
